I’m writing a book, so The Analytic Eye is on indefinite hiatus

Edit: Chaos Calling: Book I of The Xenthian Cycle is now available on Amazon as ebook and paperback editions. Visit Amazon’s Canadian, U.S., or U.K. sites to buy a copy in your local market.

Book = Wattpad + imagination + commuting time
Book = Wattpad + imagination + commuting time + dedication

Writing and publishing a book has been a passion of mine since childhood. Fiction writing fuels my creative fire. It also gives me fresh energy for the marketing and communications work I do as a leader in Toronto’s start-up ecosystem.

I began my current project with Wattpad on my phone in September 2014. Most of the writing was done during my commute. It’s since grown from one book to three and consumed all of my non-work bandwidth.

Unsurprisingly, that change in focus coincides with when I stopped posting regular updates on this blog. So I’ve decided to formerly put The Analytic Eye on indefinite hiatus.

Blogging has been a great growth experience. It led me to a book chapter and speaking opportunities, and I’ve enjoyed it very much. I’m also tremendously excited about my new project. I can’t wait to tell you more!

What’s the book about?

My book is speculative fiction set in contemporary Toronto (no surprise). The cast is diverse, and the story builds upon my long-standing interest in women, work and superheroes. I’d also say it skews more to the fantasy end of the speculative fiction pool than to science fiction.

One of the more interesting things about this experience was slowly realizing how much of my 2012 Tedx talk is relevant to this project. Back when I gave the talk, I’d stopped believing I’d ever finish a novel draft. Looking back, I see a large part of that experience as me talking to my future self. Life’s so funny like that, huh?

Why we need new stories about female superheroes” has now had over 3,000 views. If you’ve never seen it, you can watch it on the Tedx Youtube channel here:

I’ll post a link to my new writing site as this project gets closer to publication.
